Game of Thrones fans had countless expectations for the show’s final season. While it was expected Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) were going to take the crown in the final scenes, something highly unusual happened. After Daenerys decided to become the Mad Queen and kill the entire population of King’s Landing, Jon took justice into his own hands and stabbed her in the heart.
In the fleeting seconds after this act, viewers instantly assumed the show would then place Jon on the throne – which makes sense, as he is the rightful heir to the throne.
But in a strange turn of events, he ended up giving himself in to the King’s Guard, and was sent to the Night’s Watch instead.
This left Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) to become the King of Westeros, and indeed the next step in history for the show.
However, if Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) had stepped up during the final episodes, could he have claimed the throne for himself?

Jaime was mostly concerned with getting himself to Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) and saving her from the destruction of the city.
But enroute he was stalled by crowds and exploding buildings.
Eventually he made his way to his beloved sister, and the pair died in each other’s arms underneath an incomprehensible amount of rubble.
But Jaime would have had a much more satisfying ending if he had made his way to the Iron Throne after Cersei had been killed, and Daenerys was standing over her ruins.
After saving Westeros from the new Mad Queen, he may have been able to gain enough favour from the democratic party Sam Tarley (John Bradley) created to be voted as the new King.
Jaime as the King would have changed things substantially, as he still has the Lannister family’s best interests at heart – however they are all dead.
With everyone including his controlling sister gone, he may have turned over a new leaf and become a benevolent King.
And, considering that shortly before he left Winterfell he slept with Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), he may have even taken her as his Queen.
