Jerusalem’s Lot just welcomed a new, sinister resident.
Pilou Asbaek–known for his role as Euron Greyjoy in the HBO mega-hit Game of Thrones–this week signed on for the newest adaptation of Stephen King’s bestselling vampire classic Salem’s Lot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Asbaek has been cast as Richard Straker in the New Line Cinema feature film–the lackey who prepares the way for his undead master in the unfortunate town of Salem’s Lot. Straker was famously portrayed by James Mason in the 1979 two-part TV adaptation of the novel.
Since leaving Game of Thrones, Asbaek has kept busy with fantasy roles, having just wrapped his parts in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and the Sylvester Stallone-led Samaritan.
Salem’s Lot–shooting in Boston now toward a projected release date of Sept. 9, 2022–has already cast Lewis Pullman as Ben Mears, Makenzie Leigh as Susan Norton, Spencer Treat Clark as Mike Ryerson, Bill Camp as Matt Burke, Alfre Woodard as Dr. Cody and William Sadler in an unannounced role.
The film–written and directed by Gary Dauberman (who wrote Annabelle and The Nun)–follows author Ben Mears, who returns to his childhood home of Jerusalem’s Lot for inspiration for his next book “only to find his hometown is being preyed upon by a bloodthirsty vampire.”
King’s 1975 novel was made into a two-part television series starring David Soul and directed by Tobe Hooper of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre fame. This adaptation was a hit, earning Emmy Award and Edgar Award nominations.
