It’s a Game of Thrones reunion on the high seas as Pilou Asbæk joins Jason Momoa in the forthcoming Aqauman 2, according to Deadline. Asbæk has been in a lot of stuff — OverlordRun Sweetheart Run, Over the Wire and more — but he’s best known for playing dragon-slayer and raging a**hole Euron Greyjoy on Game of Thrones. Meanwhile, Jason Momoa played the indomitable (except by infection) Khal Drogo back in the first season of the series. The two characters never met, but they brought a sort of a similar wildness to the screen, so I imagine they’ll work well together.

Also, Euron Greyjoy was all about ships and Aquaman is all about water. It’s synergy…or coincidence, whichever.

What is Aquaman 2 about? Who does Pilou Asbæk play?

We have no idea who Asbæk is playing or even what the plot of the movie is, but because I have no imagination I’m going to imagine he plays some kind of pirate villain.

The first Aquaman movie made Warner Bros. over a billion dollars at the box office, so a sequel was inevitable. Along with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Momoa’s Aquaman is one of the superheroes DC Films is moving ahead with, while Ben Affleck’s Batman and (maybe) Henry Cavill’s Superman get retired to make way for a new crop of heroes like Zachary Levi’s Shazam.

Aquaman 2 is scheduled to release on December 16, 2022.
