Game of Thrones and The Matrix Resurrections star Jessica Henwick has landed her next movie role, joining the cast of The Royal Hotel.

She joins Lord of the Rings and Marvel star Hugo Weaving and Inventing Anna‘s Julia Garner in the social thriller, according to Deadline.

The story follows two best friends Hannah (Garner) and Liv (Henwick) who are backpacking around Australia. After running out of cash, the pair take live-in jobs at The Royal Hotel, a dive bar in a remote mining town.

Billy (Weaving), the bar’s owner, introduces the girls to the local drinking culture, which leads them into an unnerving situation.

The movie, from The Assistant‘s Kitty Green, will shoot from a script Green co-wrote and is being produced by See-Saw Films.

Liz Watts, head of film and television at See-Saw, added: “Like we saw with The Assistant, The Royal Hotel will get under the skin of audiences, bringing a sense of adrenaline and edge-of-seat compulsion to watch.

“We are delighted to be adding the incredible Jessica Henwick and Hugo Weaving to our cast alongside the brilliant Julia Garner.”

Henwick recently opened up about taking the role in The Matrix Resurrections over Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, saying that her decision was based on Marvel’s wider future plans.

Henwick told The Hollywood Reporter last year that she felt like accepting a role in Shang-Chi would mean ending the possibility of reprising her role as Colleen Wing from the Marvel shows, including Iron Fist.

“That definitely did come up in the discussion,” she said. “If I did [Shang-Chi], I would effectively be putting Colleen to bed. It wasn’t the main factor, but it definitely came up in conversation.

“I love Colleen. She changed my life. Of course, if I was given the opportunity to revisit her, I would, but I just don’t know how likely that is.”

Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray. Spin-off House of the Dragon is now filming and will premiere in 2022.
