Game of Thrones‘ Nonso Anozie and X-Men: The Last Stand‘s Dania Ramirez have joined Netflix‘s new drama series Sweet Tooth.

Based on the DC Vertigo comic book series of the same name, and executive produced by Robert Downey Jr and his wife Susan Downey, the show also stars Will Forte (Saturday Night Live), Adeel Akhtar (Les Misérables), and Christopher Convery (Succession), while James Brolin (Life in Pieces) serves as the narrator.

The eight-episode series centres on the adventures of Gus (Convery), a half boy, half deer-being who leaves his home in the forest to explore a post-apocalyptic world.

Anozie will be playing Tommy Jepperd, a former professional athlete who becomes Gus’ protector, while Ramirez will play Aimee, a lone scavenger helping to rebuild civilisation and provide a home to orphaned hybrids.

According to Deadline, the cast will travel to New Zealand in August where they will self-isolate for two weeks before beginning production at the beginning of September.

Sweet Tooth is one of a number of shows that’s said to have been granted border exemptions by the New Zealand government, allowing them to film during the coronavirus pandemic.

Jim Mickle and Beth Schwartz, who also executive produce alongside the Downeys, will write and co-showrun, with Mickle also serving as director.

Sweet Tooth‘s release date is yet to be confirmed.
