George RR Martin’s announcement didn’t go to plan (Picture: Twitter)

Game of Thrones fans have officially turned on George RR Martin after he announced, well, not a lot on Twitter.

The 71-year-old is still writing his overdue The Winds of Winter which has been years in the making, so when the author shared his excitement over the paperback release of Fire & Blood, he got trolled – mercilessly.

Let’s be honest, considering that book was released more than a year ago even this has been a long time coming.

‘Happy to announce that Fire & Blood, the inspiration behind the upcoming House of the Dragon, will release in paperback on May 5th in the US, Canada, and UK. This paperback edition will include 5 brand new illustrations. Pre-orders begin soon!’ a particularly excitable George tweeted.

If only his fans shared the same enthusiasm…

It’s been a tough 12 months for Game of Thrones fans. After the final season was universally panned and sparked demands for a re-write, the highly-anticipated prequel starring Naomi Watts was axed midway through filming.

Thankfully, another series, as teased in George’s aforementioned tweet, is on the way but the creator of Westeros just stuck his quill into the hearts of his following further when he stressed in his blog: ‘I expect to be involved in [the production of House of the Dragon. But… let me make this perfectly clear… I am not taking on any scripts until I have finished and delivered Winds Of Winter.’

‘Winter is still coming,’ he warned. ‘And Winds remains my priority, as much as I’d love to write an [episode] of House.’

So don’t hold your horses for House of The Dragon.

Game of Thrones seasons one to eight are available to stream on NOW TV.
