George R.R. Martin dressed a Olenna Tyrell is all your Christmases come at once Picture: HBO)

Thought you couldn’t love George R.R. Martin anymore? Think again.

The Game of Thrones creator has well and truly surpassed himself, as a photo of the author of A Song of Ice and Fire has resurfaced dressed as one of the best-loved characters from the fantasy epic.

A fan on Reddit shared a snap of George decked out as Olenna Tyrell and it is giving us life, with user kaze-ni-nare teasing the image is a frame from the elusive pilot, yet to find its way on to the worldwide web.

‘No wonder she’s such a badass. He wrote the part for himself!’ teased fellow fan, factbase, while DarkMark94 joked: ‘New theory: not only did GRRM play Olenna, but he also played every character!’

The pic comes after the 70-year-old explained the Winds of Winter delay after fans have been waiting for what feels like years for the sixth increasingly frustrating book in the literary series.

Fear not though, Winds of Winter is still on its way, it’s just a little ‘complex’.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter at this week’s Emmys 2018, George explained: ‘I’m working on [The Winds of Winter], and I wish I’d been done four years ago, but I’m slow and the book is very complex, although there are a lot of great distractions out there.’

The TV series finished filming its final episodes for season eight earlier this year but George was a notable absence on set – because he’s got a long-awaited book to write, of course.

George admitted: ‘Going to set is a lot of fun but there’s nothing for me to do there, so I thought I better stay home and not go to Croatia; or Spain; or Belfast, [Northern] Ireland. I still have two books to write.’

Game of Thrones returns to Sky Atlantic and HBO in 2019.
