Sir David Attenborough has toppled Game Of Thrones to the highgest rank on IMDb (Picture: Rex/HBO)

Even the most fearless warriors of Game Of Thrones should know not to mess with Sir David Attenborough, and now his documentary series Planet Earth II overtakes them to become one of the highest rated shows ever.

IMDb, an aggregate and information site on the TV and film industry, gathers everything they can and allows viewers to rate TV shows to gather as accurate a final score as possible.

After years on the top spot, the Westeros fantasy series was given the old heave-ho by the 2016 nature documentary series, just a week before their final season starts airing.

With GOT being relegated to second place, Band Of Brothers, Planet Earth I and Breaking Bad round out the top five.

Which is not too shabby at all.

Does this mean that we’re to expect a war between the two shows, especially considering the final episodes of Thrones will be starting just a week away?

All we can say is: Watch this space.

In the meantime, we can hear the dulcet tones of Sir David in his new nature documentary, Our Planet, his first series with Netflix.

Released last week, the show has binge-watchers everywhere laughing, crying and feeling shocked over the prowess of the animal kingdom.

But mostly we get to chill out thanks to Attenborough’s voice easing us through the most horrid of scenes, and dropping some serious inspiration on us to get us through the day.

In fact, we love him so much, we even wrote him a love letter.

Meanwhile, the last installment of Game Of Thrones is finally coming our way on Sunday and it’s pretty obvious that not everyone is quite ready to say goodbye to it.

Even George RR Martin, the author of the book behind the show, doesn’t think it should end just yet.

As we wait patiently for the truth to be revealed, HBO bosses have even teased that they’ve been keeping things so under wraps that even the cast might not know the actual ending after all this time (though we’re guessing they must at least have a good idea).

So God knows what’s going to happen as the final six episodes unfold…

Game Of Thrones returns Sunday on HBO and Sky Atlantic.
