The much-anticipated prequel to Game of Thrones is moving forward as casting for ‘House of the Dragon’ has begun.

Set 300 years before the main show and projected to be centred around House Targaryen the new series is currently casting characters for its 10-episode pilot season.

House of the Dragon will replace ‘Age of Heroes’ – a previously abandoned Game of Thrones prequel which was set to feature stars Naomi Watts and Miranda Richardson.

There are no official casting confirmations available yet – but many are speculating about the potential lead characters based on George RR Martin’s book – Fire and Blood as this covers 150 and includes the rise and fall of many leaders in Westeros.

A source told Entertainment Weekly that the famed Dance of Dragons – the Targaryen Civil War that occasionally referenced in GoT that ripped apart Westeros – will be tackled at some point in the series.

Miguel Sapochnik, who is responsible for classic episodes of Game of Thrones – ‘The Battle of the Ba***rds’ and ‘The Winds of Winter’ will be involved in the production.

Additionally, HBO programming president Casey Bloys has implied the series could premiere as early as 2022, however a reasonable delay due to the coronavirus could be expected.
