When Jon Snow was stabbed by a group of mutineers at the end of fifth series of Game of Thrones (and at the end of A Dance with Dragons) there were a few differences between these versions.
In the book, of course, Jon decides to send most of the Night’s Watch to Hardhome with Tormund in command, while he rides to Winterfell to face Ramsay Bolton after receiving a letter about the death of King Stannis.
However, when he asks if anyone will ride with him, many of the willings decide to join him, meaning the Night’s Watch do not need to break their vows and become involved in the wars of the Seven Kingdoms.
Jon goes to tell Queen Selyse his decision, but as goes to do so, Wick Wittlestick slashes Jon’s throat with a dagger, before Bowen Marsh, one of his Black Brothers, leads of group of men to stab Jon, telling him it was “for the watch.”

Will Jon Snow be resurrected in The Winds of Winter?
He is stabbed four times, and the moment ends with him passing out.
While this death was similar in the series, the reason behind it was slightly different, as the show planted seeds of doubt in Jon’s leadership of the Night’s Watch given his desire to aid the Wildlings beyond The Wall and his view on the White Walkers.
His death was not a long one, however, as Melisandre (Carice van Houten) brought Jon back to life near the beginning of the sixth series of the show, which was clearly a very necessary thing to do.
Jon Snow becomes a key figure in the rest of the series, as he brings about the death of the tyrannical queen Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) , his lover.
So, is it fair to say Jon will definitely be brought back to life in The Winds of Winter, if this storyline is to continue?
Fans will know when the series caught up with the books, which took place at the end of the fifth series, Weiss and Benioff spoke to Martin about upcoming storylines which were likely to be of interest to their viewers.
They then wove these storylines into the narrative, with some stories being far more popular than others.
However, will Jon Snow’s resurrection be one of them?

Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones
It seems likely, given how the series continued, Jon Snow will be resurrected, however the book A Dance with Dragons hinted he may not even be quite as dead as we think.
As he was stabbed, his final word was “Ghost,” which fans will know is the name of his direwolf.
Direwolves were not well discussed in the TV series, and the Stark’s relationships with their direwolves were largely missed out.
However, the final breaths of Jon Snow as written in the book certainly suggest rather than his death being quite as final as the TV series, he may warge into his direwolf, Ghost, meaning his consciousness remains alive.
Jon Snow in Game of Thrones
The chapter reads: “‘Ghost,’ he whispered… When the third dagger took him between the shoulder blades, he gave a grunt and fell face-first into the snow.
“He never felt the fourth knife. Only the cold.”
So, the idea of his mind still being alive is important, but will his body be resurrected as before?
Melisandre is the most likely person to resurrect him, given her being an established worshipper of the Lord of Light.

As well as this, she has a vision of Jon being “a wolf,” so it may be she has a way of being able to resurrect his body while returning his consciousness, which could happen in a number of ways.
She could choose to sacrifice Shireen, which speaks into the Azor Ahai prophecy, or she could use the children Jon switched – one of whom is believed to be the son of Mance Rayder and Dalla.
If Melisandre is not involved in his resurrection, there are also options in the form of other wargs, such as Bran Stark or Bloodraven, who could reach out to Jon in the wolf and try to move him back to his body.
Of course, fans will need to wait until The Winds of Winter comes out in order to find out whether this even happens at all.
