Game Of Thrones bosses have teased a series of prequels which are slated to run when the show’s final, eighth, season ends.
Series eight of GoT isn’t pegged to air until the summer of 2018 at the earliest, although a 2019 premiere is more likely.
A series of five prequel episodes have been announced, implying the show might follow The Lord Of The Rings by turning into a wider franchise.
HBO CEO Richard Pleple commented on the spin-offs at an entertainment trade show in Cannes.
‘It’s a fantastic group of writers and talent, most of whom have lived inside the Thrones eco-system so are very, very familiar with its intricacies,’ he said.
And Pleple admitted to have already read an early draft of two of the scripts.
Although there are five being written, ultimately it is likely that only a couple of the prequels will make it to the production stages.
And GoT founder George R.R. Martin is said to have been ‘closely involved’ with the spin-offs so far.
The teaser follows a recent admittance by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Cersei’s brother and boyfriend Jaime on the show, that the cast will be ‘fed lines through ear pieces’ during the eighth season to keep the threat of spoilers non-existent.
The show’s seventh series was plagued by spoilers left, right and centre.
