Game Of Thrones has managed to break its own ratings record following latest episode The Long Night.

HBO has confirmed the third episode of season eight racked up 17.8 million viewers on Sunday, beating the show’s previous single-night record of 17.4 million viewers for the season eight premiere two weeks prior.

The figure includes those viewing from HBO’s digital channels like HBO Now and catch-up service HBO Go.

It isn’t the only record it’s broken either, with Twitter recently confirming The Long Night was the most tweeted about episode of scripted television ever.

According to Variety, the episode received over 7.8 million tweets – with Arya, The Night King, Bran, Jon Snow and Cersei the most tweeted about characters.

The high figures are particularly impressive in the digital age of fragmented viewing, and considering some episodes have also leaked online before they aired.

The next episode looks set to adjust focus to the battle for the Iron Throne, raising questions of the allegiances certain characters will side with.
