  1. to whoever told me that Oberyn's white, or more spanish looking, I'm sorry to dissapoint, but he's a salty dornishmen. According to the description from the books, salty dornishmen are very dark skinned, almost like dark hindi people. So please, yes, they whitewashed the character. I loved the way he portrayed the dornish prince, but let's be real, he was whitewashed. Oberyn is dark skinned. next time you want to insult me, READ THE BLOODY BOOKS!

  2. Well this is disappointing, I always imagined Dornish people to be more Moroccan looking. The whole domed palaces (mosques? Hagia Sophia?), sun towers (minarets?), crescent/sun (dessert, Arabia or Morocco?), everything about Dorne is totally Middle-Eastern…

I can understand that Dorne is a bit like Spain, but its Granada/Alhambra/Moorish Spain, the whole Middle-Eastern influence. Pedro Pascal does not give me that at all. Zero. I imagine Dorne to be more like the gitanas (gypsies) of Granada, or like Istanbul.

  3. Whitewashing? Oberyn's Dornish. The Dornish people's closest real life counterpart would be Spain. That means they'd look European mediterranean (Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, southern France). He fits.

  4. Are you living in an alternate universe? Because the actor they chose in the universe i'm living in HAS olive skin and IS of a different ethnicity than most of the characters on the show…..

  5. Oberyn would've been the perfect opportunity to add more diversity to the cast, and with the budget for this show they could've easily taken any actor they wanted, instead they choose an actor that looks like a Greyjoy or a Baratheon or even a Stark. The majority of the Dornishmen are ethnically different from the rest of the seven kingdoms and the Martells themselves have OLIVE skin tone. Diversity is a GOOD thing people, it makes everything more interesting and realistic. Shame they blew it.

  6. GRRM himself has said that Oberyn is and the Dornish are Mediterranean looking so I don't see why you're having a hissy fit. Sick of people making everything a race thing. No one complains that Sallahdor Saan was white in the books. What does it matter? As long as they play the role well it doesn't matter. Peter Dinklage doesn't look like Tyrion and he kills the role. They aren't white washing the main characters.
