i have a problem with that quote. It would be more accurate to say "When you start playing the Game of Thrones, you play until you die" The game for the throne never ends, because the throne is so appealing that there will be new players at any point in time. They might have different motives, like glory, justice, greed etc, but whatever you do causes at least one of those things to create new "players"

You are an extremely just king and everyone lives good ? people get greedy, they want more, they want to experience the throne and they don't care how nice you are, because they will take it for granted at that time.

You are a shining king, a strong warrior, loved by the masses for his glorious victories on the battlefield. People will want to have that glory and become the most glorious person, so they will seek out to destroy you and take your place.

You are a tyrant that tries to rule over everyone with an iron fist, so that they will not think about their greed for money or glory. That will cause just people to rise against you, until a just king sits on the throne.

so basically: a greedy man becomes king, he will be overtaken by the glorious person, because he is loved by the masses and has his armies behind his back, but after he's king he will fall victim to someone else, who is so frightened of a new usurper (because of what happened to the last 2 kings) that he will resort to tyranny out of fear. This king will be usurped by the just person, and this king will be again usurped by the greedy person, etc etc etc

One of my all time favorite GoT fan videos!! Beyond amazing.
