David Benioff and Dan Weiss are moving to Netflix.
The “Game of Thrones” creators have officially closed a $200 million multi-year deal with the streaming service. Benioff and Weiss will now leave HBO to work on movies and television properties for Netflix.

“We’ve had a beautiful run with HBO for more than a decade and we’re grateful to everyone there for always making us feel at home,” the duo said in a statement published by The Hollywood Reporter. “Over the past few months we’ve spent many hours talking to Cindy Holland and Peter Friedlander, as well as Ted Sarandos and Scott Stuber.”
“We remember the same shots from the same ’80s movies; we love the same books; we’re excited about the same storytelling possibilities,” Benioff and Weiss continued. “Netflix has built something astounding and unprecedented, and we’re honoured they invited us to join them.”

Netflix chief Sarandos also chimed in. “We are thrilled to welcome master storytellers David Benioff and Dan Weiss to Netflix. They are a creative force and have delighted audiences worldwide with their epic storytelling. We can’t wait to see what their imaginations will bring to our members.”
Netflix was not the only company vying for Benioff and Weiss’ services. Amazon Studios was reportedly the frontrunner in negotiations in July before Netflix upped the ante with a competitive offer. Disney was also in talks with the showrunners. Benioff and Weiss have committed to writing the next “Star Wars” trilogy for Disney.
