Game Of Thrones showrunners DB Weiss and David Benioff’s new series The Three-Body Problem has been connected to a real-life murder after one of the producers was killed in a poison attack.

The Three-Body Problem, an adaptation of the book series created by Liu Cixen, was announced in September by Netflix, and tracks the story of humanity’s first contact with an alien civilisation.

But on Christmas Day, Lin Qi, one of the show’s producers and CEO of entertainment firm Yoozoo Group, died at the age of 39 after being poisoned by a co-worker.

He was rushed to hospital on December 17 and never recovered from the attack.

Shanghai Public Security Bureau said in a statement: ‘According to investigations on site and further interviews, the police found that a suspect surnamed Xu, who is a coworker of the victim Lin, was the most likely the perpetrator.

‘The suspect Xu has been arrested and investigations continue.’

It is not known if Xu is definitely behind the attack, or what the motivations were, but it’s not the first major stir connected to the multi-million pound production of the Three-Body Problem.

A statement released by the company also confirmed the news.

It read: ‘The board of directors of the company pays the highest respect to Mr. Lin Qi for his contribution to the company.

‘The company’s directors, supervisors, senior managers and all employees expressed their deep pain over the passing of Mr. Lin Qi

‘Condolences and express deep condolences to his family.’

Metro.co.uk has contacted Benioff and Weiss for comment.

The Three-Body Problem is yet to be given a release date by Netflix.
