Happy Death Day star Jessica Rothe has revealed she auditioned for Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen role in Game Of Thrones – and completely messed it up.
The actress, who has appeared in Amazon’s Utopia and La La Land, has spoken out about her ‘role that got away’, because at the time she had next to no idea what she was auditioning for.
Speaking with Style Caster, Jessica revealed: ‘I auditioned to play Daenerys on Game of Thrones. I didn’t even get a callback. It was so green and so new.
‘They didn’t even have me use a British accent. They didn’t give us a script. I had no idea what was going on!’
‘I was like, “Who’s this girl with violet eyes who talks to dragons?” And then cut to Game of Thrones is the biggest thing on TV.
‘I think the girl going in before me was dressed all in leather. I was in a T-shirt and jeans.’
Hey, maybe she could be reconsidered for the new Targaryen prequel, House Of The Dragon, instead?
It seems the Colorado-born star may not have been destined to be the Mother Of Dragons, with British star Emilia eventually becoming iconic in the role.
But can you imagine how different it would’ve been if she’d been signed up?!
Instead, Jessica has become a modern day horror movie final girl as the sassy and determined Tree – who keeps finding herself waking up on her birthday having been murdered, and reliving it over and over again.
Jessica added that she wasn’t bitter about missing out on a role of a lifetime, as it meant she got to enjoy Game Of Thrones as a fan.
‘As amazing as it would have been to be on that show, if I had been in it, something would have been taken away from me,’ she explained.
‘From my enjoyment of watching and getting to experience the zeitgeist, pop culture phenomenon of it all.’
Game Of Thrones airs on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK.
