The Mother of Dragons has arrived in Dublin… but not as we know her.
The Dublin Wax Museum’s latest arrival is a ‘lifelike’ waxwork of Daenerys Targaryen who is played by the stunning Emilia Clarke in Game of Thrones.
However, the sculpture does not live up to the beauty of the real thing and has caused quite a stir online, with fans taking to Twitter to lambast the less than flattering depiction of our Dany.
‘You’d think that something that took 6 months would look a little more realistic,’ one Twitter user wrote.
While another added: ‘The new Dublin Wax Work Of Daenerys from Game Of Thrones looks like a 60-year-old man dressed up as her in drag on the tail end of a 3 day stag do.’
Many have compared the figure to another blonde bombshell from fantasy lore – Legolas from Lord of the Rings who was, of course, played by Orlando Bloom in a lovely wig.
One fan tweeted: ‘I’m thinking they made it look just enough like Legolas to get maximum bang for buck- just change out the ears when needed.’
The National Wax Museum in the Irish capital, which is popular with tourists, is putting on a Game of Thrones exhibition to coincide with the release of the eighth and final season of the HBO series.
The figure was created by artist PJ Heraghty and took six months to complete.
Laoise Keaveney, head of marketing at the National Wax Museum Plus, said they were delighted to include the iconic character in their collection.
‘We got it finished in time for Game of Thrones’ final season,’ Ms Keaveney said.
‘We’ve been watching Game of Thrones and seen its success.
‘As it is based in Ireland, we thought it was something we should mark and we’re always aware that there needs to be more women added into the wax museum as well, so we were delighted to pick this character.’
Game of Thrones season 8 continues on Sunday and Monday on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
