Podrick’s melancholy tale of Jenny Of Oldstones became a poignant moment of the last episode (Picture: HBO)

Game Of Thrones’ had many standout moments in season eight episode two – but none of them haunted us as much as Podrick’s song Jenny Of Oldstones.

The old ditty, which told the tale of love and loss, was performed by Podrick (Daniel Portman), the evening before the Night of Winterfell.

Over several glasses of wine and booze, Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) encouraged a sing-song – causing Podrick Payne (Daniel Portman) to retell the tale of Jenny of Oldstones.

(The lyrics have left people convinced that the final winner of the Iron Throne has been put in place.)

Well…the song was a hit – and not just by the Florence and the Machine version, complete with a second verse, playing throughout the show’s end.

After the overwhelming response to his singing voice, Daniel Portman has thanked fans for their encouragement.

Speaking to his fans, he wrote: ‘Thank you all so much for the touching words on my rendition of Jenny of Oldstones in Episode 2!

‘The comments have been much appreciated. I’m now awaiting my offer to star in the new medieval Pitch Perfect spin-offs.’

…We didn’t realise we wanted that until he’s said it. But now someone needs to create a Westeros Pitch Perfect immediately.

The song comes over haunting moments marking peace within Winterfell, just hours before they face the Night King and the Army of the Dead.

While Arya took the moment to lose her virginity to Gendry, and Sansa reconnected with Theon Greyjoy, others took a beat to reflect on what has happened to them and what was to come.

Game Of Thrones: Jenny Of Oldstone Lyrics

High in the halls of the kings who are gone
Jenny would dance with her ghosts.
The ones she had lost and the ones she had found.
And the ones who had loved her the most.
The ones who’d been gone for so very long
She couldn’t remember their names
They spun her around on the damp, cold stones
Spun away her sorrow and pain
And she never wanted to leave

They danced through the day and into the night
Throughout the snow that swerved through their home
From winter to summer and winter again
Till the walls they crumbled and fall
And she never wanted to leave

Ahead of Podrick’s song, he bore witness to the first ever female knight being given her title – as the ever devout Brienne Of Tarth finally was bestowed the honour she never thought she’d have.

Now we have to wait for the biggest battle the show’s ever given, and longest episode of the show’s history as the Winterfell War begins.

After that, those who remain will have to fight for the Iron Throne – though who emerges victorious is another question.

Game Of Thrones continues Sundays on HBO and Sky Atlantic.
