Daenerys Targaryen (played by Emilia Clarke) spent the entire series of Game of Thrones planning a way to reclaim what she saw was her rightful position as queen. However in the final series Daenerys’ method of capturing King’s Landing ultimately led to her downfall as those closest to her turned against her after watching her transition into the Mad Queen.
Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) murdered Daenerys following a conversation with Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) in which they accepted the Mad Queen was no longer a worthy ruler.
This move came as a shock to fans of the HBO drama but a deleted scene suggests Jon had been planning Daenerys’ death for a lot longer than viewers realised.
In the fifth episode of the series, Tyrion and Jon talk briefly before the battle for King’s Landing begins.
The final version of the scene only shows Tyrion reminding Jon the bells mean the city has surrendered.
The script reveals “Jon nods, unconvinced” but the final scene only shows Tyrion’s comment about the bells and then a cut to a nod from Jon.
Does this deleted scene suggest Jon had been planning to kill Daenerys all along?
During the battle of King’s Landing, Daenerys heard the bells but ignored them and set the city alight while fighting continued on the ground.
It’s only after these horrific scenes and Daenerys’ subsequent victory speech that viewers get an insight into Jon’s state of mind.
