Wait, Littlefinger’s fate was sealed back in Game of Thrones season 2? (Picture: HBO)

A deleted scene form Game of Thrones has surfaced on Twitter, showing Littlefinger was doomed from the get-go.

In a tense conversation with Lord Varys (Conleth Hill) from season two, which for reasons unknown didn’t make it to the small screen, The Spider warns Petyr Baelish (Aidan Gillen) he may have become tangled in a curse.

Littlefinger made it all the way to season seven, which is no mean feat when Game of Thrones boasts one of the largest body counts across any TV show in history.

Eventually, after trying to tear the Stark family apart from the inside, sisters Arya (Maisie Williams) and Sansa (Sophie Turner) teamed up to play the menace at his own game. Just as he thought he had Sansa’s trust in the bag, she revealed she’s been aware of his scheming.

Cue Arya and her blade Pin, who crept up behind Littlefinger and slit his throat, before he collapsed in a pond of his own blood pouring out on the floor.

Turns out Lord Varys knew what was coming and warned Littlefinger his days were numbered.

Sparring against each while marvelling at the Iron Throne, Varys congratulated Littlefinger on his promotion to Lord of Harrenhal.

‘You’re welcome to visit, plenty of room,’ sniggered Littlefinger.

‘You’re very kind but I must admit the curse does frighten me,’ Varys explained. ‘Did you now every house that’s had the misfortune of holding Harrenhal has died out?’

‘But you’re not the sort of man who believes in vengeful spirits.’

While Littlefinger met his grisly end in season seven, Lord Varys’s death wasn’t far behind.

In the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones, he was sentenced to death by Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) for backing Jon Snow’s (Kir Harington) claim to the Iron Throne.

In turn, he was torched to death by Dany’s remaining dragon, Drogon, which at that point felt long overdue.

Game of Thrones is available to stream on NOW TV.
