The Rains of Castamere is infamous for the Red Wedding epiosde, and later for “Purple Wedding” of Game of Thrones. I wanted to enhance the sad side of the story and asked my sister Maria Jongeneel to take the lead vocal part, because of her emotional and haunting voice.

The Rains of Castamere is a dark but also a very sad song, about the fall of house Reyne. We wrote the song and video from the perspective of House Reyne, who were wiped out by the Lannisters, ending their rebellion.

The piano melodies subtly refer to The Light of the Seven from episode 10 of the sixth season. And for the middle part I felt it needed something less dark and more refreshing. Thats how the Enya inspired humming came to be.

We hope you will enjoy listening to our take on this beautiful song, as much as we did creating it.

LYRICS
‘And who are you?’ the proud lord said,
‘that I must bow so low’
‘Only a cat of a different coat,
that’s all the truth I know’

‘A coat of gold, a coat of red,
a lion still has claws.
And mine are long, and sharp my lord
As long and sharp as yours.’

And so he spoke, and so he spoke,
that Lord of Castamere,
And now the rains weep o’er his halls
with no-one there to hear.
Yes now the rains, weep o’er his halls
and not a soul to hear.
