Emilia Clarke has had a laugh at the expense of #cupgate after someone’s delicious brew was left in shot on Game Of Thrones this week.
As we charge towards the season eight finale, in episode four on Monday some eagle-eyed viewers discovered a showrunner had neglected to clear the set.
As Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia) stared daggers in the direction of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) a lone coffee cup was spotted chilling on the grimy Winterfell table in front of her.
At the time we all thought it was a Starbucks cup, but now the real coffee master has been unmasked as a local Belfast café near set, everyone is having a laugh at the expense of it – including Emilia.
Once named as one of the main customers of said coffee shop, the actress shared an image on social media this morning of her toting the very same brand of coffee cup on set.
Sharing a laugh with on-screen right hand man Peter Dinklage (who plays Tyrion Lannister) and her former on-screen husband Jason Momoa (who played the dearly departed Khal Drogo) she was holding onto a takeaway from Paper Cup.
‘Did I just stumble upon the truth here?!’ her post began. ‘The cup bearer does not drinketh the Starbucks tea…’
Oh, we see what you did there, Emilia!
As she wrapped an arm around Jason, with a blue cloth covering her bleach-blonde wig between scenes, she added: ‘Oh and this ain’t a spoiler just a lost wanderer coming home for a mid filming cuppa….🔥 @prideofgypsiesyou so fire you make my hair turn blue.’
She then added a whole bunch of tags that included: ‘#forfuturereferenceileavethebagin#drogonyouhavemyheart4lyfe#familyvalues @gameofthrones#forthethrone #forthecaffeine#forthedragons.’
It comes after showrunners tried to justify how the modern mechanic was left in the scene.
Responding to the gaffe, which has blown up on social media, Game of Thrones art director Hauke Richte told Variety it’s not uncommon for items to end up misplaced on set, go unnoticed and appear in the final cuts of movies and TV shows.
You don’t say.
Richte continued: ‘Things can get forgotten on set.’
‘[The coffee cup error has been] so blown out of proportion [because] it has not happened with ‘Thrones’ so far.’
Game of Thrones season 8 continues on Sunday and Monday on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
