Warning: Spoilers for Game Of Thrones season eight.
Game Of Thrones star Emilia Clarke has thanked her character Daenerys Targaryen for ‘saving my life’ as she suffered two aneurysms while filming.
Emilia, 32, first started having issues when she felt unwell during a training session in 2011, not long after season one wrapped.
She admitted that during season two, ‘every day I thought I was going to die’.
The actress said she ‘grew together’ with Daenerys, also known as Khaleesi and Mother of Dragons on the HBO show, and credited her for giving her the strength to keep on.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Emilia said: ‘I’ve been lying about this for a number of years.
‘Every time anyone was like, “Where do you get your strength?” I’m like, “Heavens, I have no idea.”
‘But [my character] and I grew together and, it’s corny as hell, but she saved my life.’
She went on: ‘The main thing that happens after you’ve had a brain injury – paralysis and all of that aside – is that you have fatigue, which sounds like a fancy way of saying you’re tired, but it’s debilitating to the point of demoralising. And you can’t look someone in the eye because it brings up shame.
‘Most people don’t have the mother of dragons’ shoes to walk in to help them get out of it, and those are the people I speak to now.
‘But for me, the show must go on, so you get back in those shoes and Khaleesi’s killing all the masters, speaking to 300 people in a language that’s not real and having sex with Kit Harington [Jon Snow].’
Game Of Thrones came to an end after eight seasons this month, and the finale saw Daenerys murdered by Jon as he feared her ability to rule Westeros.
Despite the episode, called The Iron Throne, being slated by a section of the fanbase, the Solo: A Star Wars Story star thinks her character’s fate makes sense.
She told Entertainment Weekly: ‘It’s not like she’s suddenly going to go, “Okay, I’m gonna put a kettle on and put cookies in the oven and we’ll just sit down and have a lovely time and pop a few kids out.”
‘That was never going to happen. She’s a Targaryen. I thought she was going to die. I feel very taken care of as a character in that sense. It’s a very beautiful and touching ending.’
Game Of Thrones is available to stream from the beginning on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
