Warning: This article contains spoilers from the Game of Thrones finale, The Iron Throne.

Absolutely no one saw Bran Stark claiming the Iron Throne (after it had melted) in the Game of Thrones finale, other than Gwendoline Christie who told us what would happen two years ago.

The Iron Throne was slated by fans and critics, becoming Game of Thrones’ lowest rated episode of all time.

Bran – really? The kid who did nothing other than watch thousands of innocent civilians die at the flames of Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) ‘madness’, knowing what was coming all along? Yeah, that guy.

While millions of us are still shook by the outcome of the past nine years, Gwen – who starred as Brienne of Tarth – predicted Bran’s fate years ago in an Extra interview with Jaime Lannister star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who, like us, wasn’t so keen on the idea.

While Nik was adamant Dany (Emilia Clarke) or The Night King (Vladimir Furdik) would claim the Iron Throne, his co-star intervened.

‘But don’t you think it’s going to be someone out of left field?’ The British-born actress asked. ‘Don’t you think those two are the obvious choices?’

‘What we know about the show is that it constantly surprises you, so I’m wondering if it might be Bran,’ she continued. ‘Just because we keep seeing the world from his perspective, we keep seeing the visions.

‘Is he in the future projecting in the past?’

But Nikolaj had exactly the same reaction to fans: ‘The Three-Eyed Raven as the King? That doesn’t make sense. He’s already seeing the future and planning the future and the past.’

He added: ‘If this is real then he also told Jamie to push him out of the window.’

We’re with Nikolaj, as are the 1.5 million angry fans who have signed a petition demanding Game of Thrones season eight is entirely remade.

Game of Thrones season one to eight are available to stream on NOW TV.
