WARNING: Here be spoilers that will ruin series seven for any and all who have yet to complete it.
Game of Thrones is finishing. It’s a sad fact that we’re all still trying to grasp, and still… despite knowing the end is nigh we’re still not ready for it.
Some Thrones fans, however, have been able to look past the pain at seeing the long night finally settle on HBO’s beloved fantasy series, and have been furiously theorizing and predicting what could be actually be involved when the fate of the Seven Kingdoms is decided.
At the end of series seven things were looking pretty bleak for our Jon Snow as the Night King scared the crap out of everyone by arriving in Westeros on the back of an undead Viserion.
Yeah, we were all shook (and obviously left hankering for more).
And, even though series eight’s premiere is a long way away – over a year if rumours are to be believed – one fan put their theory as to what will unfold on Reddit, and it kind of makes sense.
Like A LOT OF SENSE. Cue the Interweb going bat s*** crazy about the whole thing.
The Tripple B reckons that after flying to Westeros on Viserion the Night King will use his army to attack Jon, the army of the dead will be defeated by the King in the North thanks to Jamie Lannister leading at least a contingent – if not the whole of the Lannister army – to aid Jon after finally severing ties with Cersei.
However, this is exactly what the Night King wants as he and his dragon are nowhere to be seen. Instead, as his army of the undead is defeated he flies south to King’s Landing where he raises the city to the ground and kills its million-strong population – including Cersei – meaning he gets a far larger war host than before.
Something that was possibly teased at in Bran’s vision last series, as the throne room in the Red Keep was glimpsed covered in snow.
As the Redditer says: ‘They foreshadowed it too much in the last episode.’
What’s more Euron and the Golden Company arrive at King’s Landing just after this, walking right into a trap where in they are also killed and join the Night King’s new army.
Midway through Dany finds out she’s pregnant.
This means that both Bran and Sam have to keep Jon’s parentage a secret after the Mother of Dragons and King in the North declare they are getting married, or they at least tell Jon who doesn’t have a chance to tell his beloved before the end of the series.
Which all leads into the bittersweet ending that sees Dany gives birth to a child, but dies in childbirth or shortly after. In turn, Jon becomes King of the Seven kingdoms, but as with much of his life loses and wins at the same time, as he is left alone to raise their child.
Jamie ends up being forced to kill a wight version of Cersei at the last battle for the world to fulfill the prophecy. He survives the field of war and becomes the 1000th Lord Commander and restores the wall to its former glory whilst also bringing honour to the Night’s Watch.
Everyone’s favourite Bronn lives as well, and gets The Twins when it’s all over. This meaning that Tyrion was as good as his word, and doubled what he was being paid (one castle).
The Hound survives and stays with Tyrion, who retires as Hand of the Queen and goes back to Casterly Rock as its Lord – what would old Tywin say to that?
He changes the Lannister’s source of income and wealth from gold to wine, as he opens a vineyard there and becomes rich by supplying the Seven Kingdoms with the best wine imaginable.
Another winner is Gendry, who manages to somehow keep his head and is legitimized by Jon and Dany.
And to end the show – so that there could always be more fun – the dragons all die in the battles, however, in one last scene it’s discovered that they laid eggs before the last battle meaning there will still be dragons to serve the descendants of Daenerys Targaryen.
How about THAT for a theory?
As it is we’ll have a long wait to see if any of it stacks up, as series eight is a long way off. Last guesstimates set it at April 2019.
