Jon Snow’s true identity may have been hinted at in season one of Game Of Thrones.
A new fan theory claims a scene between Ned Stark and Robert Baratheon in episode two may have given more away than we realised at the time.
Ned and Robert talk about their shared history during a break on their travels, and the topic of the women they have bedded in the past crops up.
The atmosphere changes when Robert asks about ‘your bastard’s mother’ – the bastard being Jon – and asks what she looked like.
‘She must have been a rare wench to make Lord Eddard Stark forget his honour,’ Robert says.
When Ned says he won’t tell him, Robert replies: ‘We were at war. None of us knew if we were gonna go back home again. You’re too hard on yourself.’
But of course we know he was defensive because Lyanna, Ned’s sister, is in fact Jon’s mother.
Eagle-eyed fan Regnes posted their thoughts on Reddit.
They said: ‘It was of course Robert who made Ned sully his name due to his murderous desire for revenge against all Targaryens. I think Ned looks angry by this point.’
The scene also sees Robert share with Ned a message he received about Daenerys’ wedding to Khal Drogo.
Regnes continues: ‘Now it makes total sense why Ned is so frustrated at Robert right off the bat when he reads it.
‘Robert had already rubbed Ned wrong by making him remember what he was forced to do to protect Jon, and now the conversation is going right back to the Targaryens and some plot to murder yet another innocent kid.
‘No wonder he loses his s**t at Robert by the end of the scene.’
That’s definitely got us thinking…
