Game of Thrones fans are a clever bunch – and if this latest theory is anything to go by, we finally have a date on when to watch the new series.

The eighth (and final, sob) series will be taking to our screens in April next year, and, if you want to be specific, Reddit users reckon that it’s going to be on 14 April.

And why, may you ask? Well, as this Reddit user explains, it’s pretty simple.

‘So the first official footage for season 7, much like the footage we saw last month for season 8, was released on November 27th, 2016. The season then premiered on July 16th, 2017, which I found to be 231 days later.

Do we finally have a date to count down to? (Picture: HBO)

‘I then compared that to the footage that was released on August 26th, 2018 by adding 231 days to it. The date I found? Sunday April 14th, 2019. Can’t be a coincidence can it?’

For some, this is just about all the evidence they need to be convinced that this is pretty much, bang on. I mean, we already knew that this would be in the right season?

What do you think? Do you buy it?

In the meantime, we’ve got nothing to do but speculate – and there’s a hell of a lot of loose ends to tie up.

Peter Dinklage didn’t do us any favours of reassurance either, as he has warned fans they’re ‘in for it’ when the fantasy epic returns.

The 49-year-old opened up about Tyrion Lannister’s end game, though of course he’s keeping the hero’s fate a closely guarded secret.

‘There are no better writers in television than [showrunners] Dan Weiss and David Benioff,’ he told Entertainment Tonight. ‘They ended it brilliantly. Better than I could have imagined and you people are in for it.’

He teased: ‘It ends beautifully for my character, whether it be tragic or not.’

WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?

Game of Thrones season eight starts in April 2019 on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
