Game of Thrones fans think they’ve uncovered a massive plothole that could have massively helped Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) in her battle against The Night King.
It was already established in the lore of George RR Martin’s A Song Of Ice and Fire novels that dragonglass was one of only two substances that could be used to kill White Walkers, the other being Valyrian steel, forged in dragon fire and very hard to come by.
A massive mine of dragonglass was found at Dragonstone, the ancestral home of the Targaryen dynasty in Westeros by Jon Snow (Kit Harington) during the show’s seventh season.
But whilst the mine was used to make weapons in the fight against the Night King during the final series, some eagle-eyed took to Reddit after discovering that, actually, a lot more could have been done with the seemingly endless supply of dragonglass our heroes had to hand.
User murdererousbanana13 questioned this, asking: ‘On Dragonstone, we see that there is plenty of dragonglass, but for some reason, no-one thought to make dragonglass arrowheads.
‘In season three, we see Sam kill a white walker with a dragonglass dagger, so we know that dragonglass is an effective choice for killing white walkers and wights.’
They continue: ‘Arrows would be a smart choice because they could kill wights/white walkers (and maybe even the Night King) without hand-to-hand combat and in one shot.
‘With the arrows, they could easily kill zombie Viserion too.’
And it seems fans of the show agreed that this plot hole could have saved Dany and Jon a whole lot of time.
One user replied: ‘Jon even finds a handful of arrowheads made of dragonglass on the Fist.’
Another added: ‘I thought that’s what was going to happen [they would] mass-produce dragonglass arrows.’
One fan, however, seemingly defended the show saying: ‘When you shoot an arrow, you’re likely not getting it back.
‘So its a one and done with the dragonglass, especially when for the most part a flaming arrow would do the job for the wights.’
In other Game of Thrones news, the prequel series House of Dragon – which will track the arrival of Daenerys’ ancestors in Westeros – has started the casting process for its three main characters.
Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are now available to stream on NOW TV.
