Game of Thrones fans think George RR Martin has already answered one huge question in season eight, which may have spelled the end of the series.
As we enter the final chapter from the HBO epic, we are drowning in theories, speculation and desperation for some sort of explanation is reaching breaking point – seriously.
However, arguably the biggest question mark surrounds the prophecy of Azor Ahai – the legendary hero, often referred to by Melissandre.
The warrior is believed to have ended the Long Night when darkness first loomed over Westeros, as he saved the world with his sword, Lightbringer, and is expected to rise again in the upcoming battle against the White Walkers.
But who could possibly be The Prince was Promised? Is he real? When will we find out? We are so hungry to find out it hurts.
However, Reddit user LadyBethOfHouseStark, and fan of Martin’s literary series, has plucked a passage from A Dance With Dragons, and noted: ‘Melissandre is looking into the flames for a sign of Stannis’ well-being, and all she keeps seeing is Jon Snow.
‘“I pray for a glimpse of Azor Ahai, and R’hllor shows me only Snow.”
‘Thoughts? If R’hllor is the one true god, didn’t we just get the answer to the ending of the books?’
Jon Snow has been the firm favourite to be the key to taking down The Night King ever since Game of Thrones began – even when they tried, and failed, to let us believe he was dead.
Though, that may spell the worst news for Daenerys Targaryen as the prophecy also tells how Azor plunged his sword into the heart of his wife.
But there’s also plenty of fans pointing the finger at Jaime Lannister, who would, in turn, bump of Cersei Lannister, which at this point already seems inevitable.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2019.
