The new posters for the final season of Game Of Thrones has left some fans scratching their heads.

HBO stepped the season eight excitement up a gear by unveiling slick looking posters depicting each remaining character looking moody on the Iron Throne.

Arya, Sansa, Cersei, Jon, the Night King, Tyrion, Daenerys and Brienne are just some of the characters who get a spin on the famous, dangerous chair. Even Jorah and Sam get their own posters.

But there’s one face notably missing from the line up – Gregor Clegane aka The Mountain.

His equally fearsome brother Sandor, The Hound, is pictured on the Iron Thrones, but his bro isn’t present.

Could this be a clue to the outcome of Cleganebowl, the supposed showdown between Sandor and Gregor that fans have been calling for?

If The Mountain isn’t shown on the Iron Throne, is that because he won’t get a shot because he’s been killed by his own brother? We wouldn’t put anything past this show.

Hafthor Bjornsson, who plays The Mountain, recently revealed that he was given a stunt double for the first time in the final season.

The actor’s ‘tall and big’ double could be a stand in for a fight scene involving The Mountain that is so epic, the incredibly strong Bjornsson wasn’t allowed to do it himself.

‘All the seasons prior to this season that we just finished filming. I never had stunt doubles. I always did everything myself,’ he said.

Hafthor added that season eight was a much more punishing shoot than the ones before it.

Teasing what fans can expect, he explained to Mashable: ‘Viewers can definitely expect an amazing season. ‘I obviously know just a little bit, I don’t know what’s gonna happen in everything, you know I only play a small role, you know, but I’m at least super excited to see the season and it was certainly the most hardest season I’ve filmed for Game Of Thrones.’

Game Of Thrones returns 15 April on Sky Atlantic
