Game of Thrones star Charles Dance has admitted he wasn’t a fan of the finale, which has been slated by long-running fans of the HBO epic.

The 72-year-old starred as the gruesome Tywin Lannister until the villain was shot with an arrow by his own son Tyrion (played by Peter Dinklage) while on the toilet in one of the most shameful deaths in Game of Thrones history. It was a moment.

However, as a petition to have season eight remade breaks through 1.5 million signatures and bets are now being taken that HBO will redeem their wrongs of the past seven weeks with a ninth series, Charles is baffled by the events of last Sunday’s finale too.

‘I was confused,’ he explained during today’s Good Morning Britain. ‘I’ve watched as much as I can because there are characters like Deanerys (Emilia Clarke) – her character and my character never met – so I wanted to know what happened to these people.’

He continued: ‘I got to the very end and I thought, “hmm, ok.” There’s little Arya (Maisie Williams) going off on a cruise somewhere; poor Jon’s (Kit Harington) gone back to the North and all the people left alive are sat around, “shall we have a cup of tea?”

‘I thought, “Agh, I don’t know.”

The Game of Thrones finale, titled The Iron Throne, saw Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) named ruler of the now Six Kingdoms, after sitting back and watching Daenerys torch thousands of innocent children knowing the massacre was about to take place.

In turn, fans were fuming and the legacy of Game of Thrones will be forever tarnished by its lackluster swansong.

The Game of Thrones cast have called the backlash ‘disrespectful’, with Sophie Turner going in on fans demanding a rewrite.

‘People always have an idea in their heads of how they want a show to finish, and so when it doesn’t go to their liking, they start to speak up about it and rebel,’ Sophie told The New York Times.

‘All of these petitions and things like that — I think it’s disrespectful to the crew, and the writers, and the filmmakers who have worked tirelessly over 10 years, and for 11 months shooting the last season.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV while Game of Thrones is available to stream on NOW TV.
