This is one of my favourite tunes – it suits the feel of the series perfectly and makes you think of open spaces and far away lands 🙂

When I tried to record this the first time, I was very disappointed – it just didn’t have that epic feel that strings seem to get, so I tried to do it in a way that would suit the flute and I added all the other flutes. Then I kept on changing things until it sounded ok..

I’m playing the percussive drum parts on the bass flute and contrabass flute and have panned it left and right to get closer to the epic feel of the original.

The contrabass flute’s low basslines starts midway through just to add bottom end. I love the deep sound that one normally doesn’t associate with flutes 🙂

Thanks to Leo Dale for the filming and Husky Hoskulds for the mix!

  1. Hey Wouter !
    Wow ! That's a great cover ! Love it !
    I was wondering a few questions ^^
1- what is your piccolo made of and what brand is it from?
2- what's the brand of all your flutes ? Are they Pearl or Yamaha ?

Thanks a lot in advance for your answer !!
I'm a flutist myself and I'm actually looking forward to buying an alto flute in the near future and I really like the sound of the flute you have !

Keep on playing ! Again, amazing job!

  2. I can also explain why I loved your playing so much. Other people just produce notes, but you play the melodies with so much love for what you do and you can see that you enjoy every note you produce. Thank you very much, I learned a lot from you.
