It’s important to honor hard work and talent in every field. When we validate someone’s good work, it prompts them to hustle even better. For an artist, this need grows many-fold. Game of Thrones’ success all over the globe has brought it many such accolades. Another feather in the cap came last year when the creators, David Benioff and D. B. Weiss got the Outstanding Television Writer Award at the 26th Annual Austin Film Festival and Conference. To mark this special moment, they will be up, discussing the hit series, on an episode from season 10 of Austin Film Festival’s On Story; a TV program that features conversations between writers, creators, and filmmakers to provide an inside look into the creative process of films and TV series.
Austin 360 reported that On Story’s tenth season will have 17 episodes featuring recorded conversations from the 26th Annual Austin Film Festival and Conference. It will include filmmakers, TV and feature writers namely, Lulu Wang (The Farewell), Craig Mazin (Chernobyl), David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (Game of Thrones), David Mandel (Veep), and many more.
“‘On Story’ gives viewers a free front-row seat to hundreds of filmmakers sharing their fascinating behind-the-scenes stories at Austin Film Festival. These conversations often send audiences back for repeat viewings of their favorite shows, or introduce them to movies they missed the first time around and always with a greater appreciation; now knowing the creative decisions that went into making them,” said Maya Perwez, On Story executive producer, in a statement.
Although a show like Game of Thrones is not short on popularity, every year, there is a ton of amazing content that does not catch anyone’s attention. However, there are places like the Austin Film Festival that aim to highlight such projects. Its annual festival features screenings and premieres for films, primarily focusing on the craft of screenwriting and direction. It has also included awards for producers and actors lately.
Season 10 of On Story premieres in April 2020 across the United States. Apart from the weekly TV program, the content will also be available through other outlets; a one-hour weekly radio program in collab with Public Radio Exchange (PRX); three ‘On Story’ books by the University of Texas Press; a free podcast series on iTunes, Spotify, and Stitcher.
Moreover, such interviews are always great for viewers. It allows them to engage with the story more deeply while taking a backseat, away from their prima-facie opinion. We feel GoT’s season 8 could benefit from that. Thus, we look forward to hearing the Game of Thrones creators talk about the show’s inside process. What about you? Which episodes interest you?
