When the pilot was reworked, however, his role was given to fellow British star Roger Allam, who subsequently appeared in two episodes of Thrones’ first season.

Following his small cameo in the unaired pilot, fans may be wondering why Martin failed to make any appearances in the actual series.

He explained: “I never did find time to do another cameo, but I suspect the show was better for it.”

Still, there’s always a chance the iconic author will make an appearance when the story continues with upcoming spin-off series, The House of the Dragon.

Game of Thrones is available to stream on Now TV.
