George RR Martin and HBO are teaming up once again for a fantastical TV series.

This time, however, it won’t be set in Westeros, as the powerhouse author and US network will adapt the late Roger Zelazny’s novel Roadmarks.

According to Deadline, the Game of Thrones mastermind is onboard as executive producer, while Star Trek: Discovery writer Kalinda Vazquez showruns.

Published in 1979, Roadmarks centres around a highway that allows riders to travel through time.

Linked to every single timeline and place, those lucky enough to discover it can use the road to explore the mysteries of the world, yet for some, its special power might be their only hope of surviving.

This particular story seems right up Martin’s street, as the road itself was created by the ‘Dragons of Bel’kwinith’, although nobody knows how or why.

Commenting on this new TV venture, Martin shared: “My career in television started in 1985 when I adapted Roger Zelazny’s Last Defender of Camelot for The Twilight Zone.

“Roger was a friend, a mentor and one of the greatest science-fiction writers who ever lived. It was an honour to be able to bring his work to television. That is why I am so thrilled to be a part of adapting Roger’s novel Roadmarks for HBO.

“We have a great book, a great screenwriter in Kalinda Vasquez, and the makings of a wonderful, original show. I look forward to a long and thrilling journey.”

Game of Thrones seasons 1-8 are available on DVD and Blu-ray.
