Game Of Thrones author George RR Martin may have ruled out Daenerys from the Iron Throne race, teasing how she’s only able to ‘destroy’.

The final season of HBO’s fantasy epic kicks off in April 2019, which will reveal who, or what, will reign supreme in the battle against the White Walkers.

The release of new book Fire And Blood from George RR Martin has sent fans plundering its pages for clues, but recent comments on the promo trail may have indicated frontrunner Daenerys isn’t about to sit pretty in King’s Landing.

Speaking to news.com.au, George said: ‘I have tried to make it explicit in the novels that the dragons are destructive forces, and Dany [Daenerys Targaryen] has found that out as she tried to rule the city of Meereen and be queen there.

‘She has the power to destroy, she can wipe out entire cities, and we certainly see that in Fire and Blood, we see the dragons wiping out entire armies, wiping out towns and cities, destroying them, but that doesn’t necessarily enable you to rule – it just enables you to destroy.’

While he’s referring to the books, could George be offering backhand hints about Dany’s chances in the battles to come?

Interestingly, Martin also stated how he’s continuing to dribble hints throughout his works which will come into play in the final two books in the Fire and Ice saga.

‘I know where those are going to end up, I’ve known for many, many years,’ George said about bringing it to a close. ‘There is some foreshadowing there and there’s a little hint here and there that may come into play in the last few books.

‘I do try to do that too, yes, deliberately put in little hints and mysteries and some of them maybe you can solve if you put the clues together, at least you can come up with a plausible theory, and some of them are just meant to be perpetually something to make you think and wonder.’

George also appeared to confirm a pretty huge Jon Snow theory recently, so could this be greater fuel to the fire that Jon will be forced to kill Daenerys through her appetite for destruction?

Game Of Thrones season eight is set to kick off on HBO and Sky Atlantic in April 2019.
