Game Of Thrones’ George RR Martin was set to cameo in the HBO fantasy series, but was savagely recast when the pilot was reshot.

The author had made an appearance in the show’s original first episode as a guest at Daenerys Targaryen’s wedding alongside Doc Martin star Ian McNeice, however, the scene never made it to air.

And to make matters worse, Martin never found the time to make another cameo.

Martin shared a behind-the-scenes picture of him and co-star McNeice grinning for the cameras as they were dressed to the nines with an elaborate headdress and robes.

‘We shot the wedding of Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo in Morocco,’ Martin revealed on his Not A Blog blog. ‘Ian McNeice played Illyrio Mopatis, a magister of Pentos, and I played one of the wedding guests, presumably another magister.

‘Both of us, alas, were left on the cutting room floor when Dany was recast and the wedding was reshot.’

Martin continued: ‘Ian McNeice was terrific as Illyrio, by the way, but a scheduling conflict made him unavailable for the reshoot.

‘I never did find time to do another cameo, but I suspect the show was better for it.’

It’s not all bad news though, as Martin revealed that he has done some acting work in the past and he pointed out where fans can see him.

‘If you really want to see me do a cameo, I did two for BEAUTY AND THE BEAST in the 80s, and more recently had my brilliant turns in SHARKNADO 3 and Z NATION,’ he enthused.

‘I made a swell zombie…’

Game Of Thrones is available to stream on HBO, NOWTV and Sky.
