Game of Thrones ended a year ago, and fans worldwide miss it dearly. The prequel to the acclaimed TV series, House of the Dragon was announced by HBO back in 2019. Fans around the world have been hyped about the prequel ever since.
They now have another reason to rejoice as the awaited series gets a release date. In a post-Emmy interview with Deadline, Casey Bloys, HBO President, revealed the drama is still on track for a 2022 launch.
Bloys further confirmed that casting for the series is currently underway, thus affirming the previous rumors about HBO casting for key characters. Earlier, this year, there were rumors about the network looking for actors to play Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower. In September, news of casting for Daemon Targaryen was also circulating on social media.
House of the dragon is expected to span the period from the arrival of Aegon Targaryen to Westeros to the Dance of the Dragons, and the internal conflict and civil war that tore House Targaryen apart. The source material is of course George R. R. Martin’s novel, Fire and Blood. It also includes anthology Dangerous Women and Rogues.
The show is now scheduled to premiere in 2022, with casting currently under process and shooting to begin in 2021. The show-runners are Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik (Emmy winner for the “Battle of the Bastards” episode ) and Ryan Condal.
