One thing I can't understand: Hodor was already holding that door, he was dedicated and he loved those children, he would hold it without that mind-crushing "encouragement"… I predict that situation will make more sense in the book, maybe Hodor will be unaware of the incoming white walkers and telling him through the past will be the only way.
