A lot of the main characters in Game of Thrones have their own themes that play in the soundtrack – either when they’re on screen, or when a plot-point involving them is taking place.

I love the Game of Thrones soundtracks. I mean REALLY love them. I listen to them almost exclusively when I’m reading the ASoIaF books… So I’ve compiled different versions of these themes into one HUGE 30-minute video for everyone’s enjoyment! I find it pretty interesting, so hopefully other GoT fans do, too.

  11. I am the only one in my family that watches this who caught on to the fact that the music tells just as much of the story as the visuals do. I pointed out how much foreshadowing the music alone can do, like this last season while Sam was leaving the Wall, it played Stark/Snow theme instead of the Wall theme, and then well….no spoilers here but you know. I love how the soundtrack does this.

  15. My top list for all the main houses (taking into consideration every events since season 1 and until season 5 episode 1):
    1. House stark (I'm a northerner myself so I share their sense of honesty, honour and devotion to traditions plus most of their characters are truly likeable)
    2. House lannister (you ask why? well they are a pretty smart house, and now that tywin and joffrey is dead, only cercei stands in the way for their being the best house mostly cus of tyrion and somewhat jamie – kevan, tommen and myrcella are all good too)
    3. House martell (Oberyn made quite an impact in his short time in the series, and from what I have heard the other martells won't dissapoint)
    4. House baratheon (not the smartest of kind nor the dumbest either, none of them enjoyed cruelty and all the three brothers have/had some distinction of personality to favour)
    5. House tyrell (they sure know how to treat their people well, however mace martell is very unlikeable, a stupid oaf really, granny tyrell was clever aye but she plotted and killed joffrey with littlefinger, which tyrion took the blame for, margery however brings them up a little with some breath of fresh air)
    6. House tully (pretty stupid house, but they are not cruel by nature either)
    7. House arryn (here comes the downfall, no great things to say about them thus far, inconsiderate and bad judging)
    8. House Targaryan (no hate! daenerys just pisses me off sometimes with her stupidity and ignoranace to the wisest advices, then sometimes again she does something to raise herself again, but to what end? bah)
    9. House greyjoy (idiotic house who never learns, yara might be okay but father greyjoy is so silly and so hypocrite, theon the betrayer of his "real" family – their music is kinda great I have to admit thought :D)
    10. House frey (most of them are despicable, killing people under their own roofs after granting a token and symbol of their safety within their walls, like bran said this is unforgivable acts)
    11. House bolton (I mean come on, flays their enemies and tortures them to the best of their art and enjoys it all the same, yuck – I'll give it to them, they are witty and make for a good show, but some of the scenes they grant can be a bit sickening)

Regarding the criticism, two points: Television series by definition aren't going to be developed too deeply unless/until they begin to PAY for themselves – it's a weird idea, but look at something like "C.S.I." – when the show finally took hold in the ratings, in season 3 and 4 the music/sound effects improved by leaps and bounds. "Money"…. I doubt Game of Thrones would have been able to pay John Williams to tie himself up for (potentially) seven, eight years. And now GoT has hit big time, but it's still a television project – all the clever intermixing of themes as bloodlines intermix could be cool, but completely non-essential to the main goal, which is to keep people paying for HBO. Exciting, stressful, ominous music – generic will work just as well for the 97% of viewers who really aren't listening.

    I would love to see an updated version that included songs from 3rd and 4th season =D 
    You really did a great job categorizing and grouping songs from each house to appreciate the evolution and it's fantastic! Please let us enjoy this with the last 2 seasons! ^^
