In recent times, a lot of people have turned to spending on travel instead of the other materialistic luxuries of life. They have been more invested in spending money on experiences rather than things, which is great as it helps one’s personality grow. And with the huge number of fandoms of different films and TV shows, incorporating both has become a passion for many. One of the hit TV series of all time, Game of Thrones is one such show that featured a lot of travel. Moreover, the scenic views from the show were breathtaking prompting many to actually visit locations where the show was shot. In the past, there have already been many Game of Thrones based tours that takes travellers to places where different scenes of the show were shot. But all of that seems to have been taken a notch higher as now, an exclusive luxury cruise has been launched that will specifically take its visitors to Game of Thrones’ locations – through sea – just like how many opted to travel back in the time that Game of Thrones was set in.
Called Cruise of Thrones, the sea tour has been brought to life by Dalmatian Travel & Events. It will take visitors on a cruise that travels through Iceland, Northern Ireland, Spain, Malta, and Croatia with two unique itineraries. Lynette Durovic, the owner of the company, is a huge fan of the novels by George RR Martin and the show. She revealed that that where the inspiration for the cruise is rooted. Speaking to Express UK, she said that the idea for the cruise came to her while she was on a Game of Thrones tour where the excitement and the thirst for more compelled her to take on the seafaring initiative. She added that recreating the complete giant fantasy world needed a lot of planning, hard work, and innovation – and Cruise of Thrones’ mark first of such for her company.
Cruise of Thrones offers an eight-day Northern Cruise, followed by an eight-day Southern Cruise and a 16-day Known World Cruise. It also takes the visitors on a side trip to Dragonstone which is located in Bilbao, Spain. The Northern ride takes you to The Wall and beyond, wherein Iceland, Northern Ireland, and Ireland will show you the Fist of the First Men and the grounds of Winterfell. Meanwhile, the Southern trip goes to the Mediterranean. Through ports in Spain, Malta and Croatia, one could visit Dorne, Essos and King’s Landing respectively. The Known World Cruise will consist of both the Northern and the Southern cruises and give a full tour around the filming sites of Game of Thrones. The Dragonstone comes free if you purchase both.
But this cruise is more of an adventure on the deck as compared to on the land. The cruise offers a wide range of activities and surprises for the travellers. Lynette describes the cruise as one for the fans and made by fans. It’s set to start sailing on September 2021 – which is still more than a year away – but considering the huge number of fans across the world, it’s bound to be sold out soon. Most of the shows’ diehard fans will be very excited to see what the world of Westeros would have looked like in real life, travelling to Essos and a whole lot more. It will offer a more real-life experience of what the characters must have felt while starting their journeys. Nevertheless, it’s surely going to be an amazing ride. But unlike the studio tour – wherein fans got to visit the sets of the show as well – Cruise of Thrones is not endorsed by HBO or any Game of Thrones related entity. It is a private initiative that seeks to bring the mythology of ice and fire to the shores of its believers.
