Fabergé eggs are a big deal. As the beloved icons of the Russian Imperial family for decades, these tiny treasures can fetch millions of dollars. And a new Game of Thrones-inspired Fabergé dragon egg is in the works that could set you back a lot of gold coins.
THR reports that Fabergé’s head designer, Liisa Tallgren, is spearheading the project that is tied to both Easter (the whole egg thing) and the 10th anniversary of HBO’s venerated Game of Thrones series, hence the dragon egg aspect. Tallgren worked with Game of Thrones costume designer Michele Clapton to ensure that all the details are perfect.
The egg includes “an intricate and enchanting design that tells the tale of Daenerys Targaryen’s quest to take her place on the Iron Throne” and it includes diamond accents and a pear-cut ruby that sits upon a miniature crown.
The Game of Thrones Fabergé egg will cost $2.2 million
Clapton wanted the egg to reflect Dany’s journey from the beginning of the series to the very end, tying in inspiration from the various costumes she wore and the things she held dear. The outside is done in purple, red and silver to reflect the colors that Dany wore on a regular basis on the show.
“The design references Daenerys Targaryen’s incredible journey and the importance of color within her costumes, her passion for her dragons, and the way she portrayed messages via her jewelry throughout her journey on the show,” Clapton said. “References from the textures of the dragons and their iconic eggs were used to inform the surfaces of this egg objet.”
As the egg opens up, one side panel is the head of a dragon and its wings wrap around the crown inside. “I knew instantly what the secret gift should be, there was never a doubt; it had to be the crown that Daenerys believed throughout her life was her destiny,” Clapton said. “With the crown, I referenced her dragons, their wings sweeping around protecting the beautiful Gemfields ruby that represents Daenerys, her house color, and her fierce quest to rule.”
A Fabergé Game of Thrones egg objet is a must-have item for the consummate Game of Thrones collector. But heed this warning: You should consult your Master of Coin before setting your sights on this gem, as the treasure will set you back a cool $2.2 million when it’s finished later this year.
