- Westworld episode 2 features two familiar faces from the Game of Thrones universe.
- Game of Thrones producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss appeared as two lab technicians.
- Let’s wildly speculate about the crossover.
In Westworld’s episode 2, Game of Thrones producers David Benioff and D.B Weiss appear as two technicians at Delos, the company responsible for the creation of the many “parks” (the most famous being, of course, “Westworld”). The duo appears to be discussing programming for Daenerys Targaryen’s dragon Drogo, who famously fled the scene of Dani’s (spoiler!) death.
Since the Game of Thrones series finale, which left many fans incensed, Benioff and Weiss have been practicing more avoidance than cameo. The duo pulled out of Comic Con last year and exited two productions, one a civil war project for HBO (Confederate, since canceled) and a Lucasfilm deal for a potential Star Wars trilogy.
Their next venture will be for Netflix with a deal reportedly worth $200 million. Around the same time, Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy scored a $150 million deal with Amazon.
We guess it’s only natural for the two duos to meet at Delos.
Though the cameo was probably just an HBO Easter egg (both series appear on the same network), we can, nevertheless, wildly speculate over the implications of the crossover. Because the implication is obvious: Westeros is just another Westworld; it is a park.
And if Westeros is a park, we not only have to question the reality of that world, but also every being who inhabits it. Who are guests? Who are hosts? And who are the thousands of poor lab technicians who had to clean up King’s Landing after that brutal Daenerys storyline last season?
Clearly, John Snow is all host. He was literally brought back to life on a table. He also has about as much self-awareness as Teddy. Like Teddy, he also blindly follows a blonde civilization-destroying machine in Daenerys, who is basically just medieval Delores. (Both also share a Christ complex and a worldview that we’re all imprisoned slaves.)
And if Dani is also a host, it’s unlikely that little stabby stab in her stomach actually killed her. Which means the Khaleesi is still roaming around somewhere in the park. And since we never saw repetitions in Game of Thrones, we can assume that the entire 8 seasons was just one very long storyline. One loop. Which means it can be changed. It can be changed!
But the bigger implication is that since Game of Thrones world takes place inside a virtual park, it means even the technicians are hosts. Which means Benioff and Weiss are hosts.
So they never wrote Game of Thrones? Someone only wrote them writing Game of Thrones. Who is this architect? Is that you Ford? Is that you George R.R. Martin?
