Jacob Anderson has spoken about his experiences filming the final season of Game Of Thrones, teasing more to come from the romance between Grey Worm and Missandei.
In season seven, Grey Worm and Missandei consummated their relationship in an intimate sex scene, which stood out from the show’s usual romps considering the Unsullied leader was castrated as a young boy.
With only six episodes left in the coming final season, it raises the question of whether there’s time for romance between the impending White Walker threat and power tussle for the Iron Throne.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, Grey Worm’s Jacob Anderson was hesitant to say whether the relationship will play a big role going forward – but admitted it would ‘factor’ in season eight events.
‘We’ll just have to see,’ Jacob said. ‘I think that that is quite a big part of that character’s story, his relationship with Missandei. So it’s fair to assume that’ll be a factor in the next season.
‘But there’s a lot going on so…’
His final day on the show’s set came after an intense ten month shoot, which unsurprisingly led to an incredibly personal moment for the actor.
‘It was heartbreaking,’ Jacob said. ‘Obviously I can’t say who I was with, but it was a really bittersweet thing.
‘When you’re shooting for that long, I was ready to finish when we finished, but at the same time I’m really going to miss everybody I’ve been working with. It was an emotional day. I cried. It’s been a big part of my life.
‘Everybody kind of got a send-off. It almost feels wrong to talk about it because it was all so personal for everybody. It was lovely. It was a really nice way to finish things the way that we did.
‘It’s changed my life in ways I never expected,’ Jacob added. ‘It’s a big show and it’s been a really huge part of my year, every year, going back it feels like school. I’ve learnt so much and I’ve made so many friends and I’ll be grateful for it for the rest of my life.’
With Game Of Thrones behind him, Jacob is prioritising his music career under alias Raleigh Ritchie – working on his anticipated second album following critically praised 2016 debut You’re A Man Now, Boy.
The untitled second album, preceded by singles Time In A Tree and Me, Myself And I, will venture into uncharted, personal territory.
‘I’ve always written in a very personal way but it’s almost like… there’s still things I was scared to admit or talk about in the first album,’ Jacob says.
‘Since then, I’ve started therapy and I’ve been through massive changes in my life and I feel like I can confront some of the things I was afraid to say in the first album. So I feel like this next album is going to be very honest and just getting in touch with myself even more than I did before.’
While the album is unfinished, Jacob is aiming for an ‘early 2019’ release – which could steer very closely to the return of Game Of Thrones if the show’s air-date history is anything to go by.
‘I have to be careful,’ Jacob said. ‘I’m trying to stay a little bit from the premiere of the show.
‘I don’t want to like cross the streams too much, so that’s quite good because it gives me even more of a motivation to get it finished. Ideally I’d like it to come before the show starts again.’
Along with acting and music, Jacob’s talents also extend to behind the camera – having written a feature film and recently directed the music video for Time In A Tree.
His creative juggle, however, isn’t about to be filtered down into favourites anytime soon.
‘It’s like one thing at a time,’ Jacob says. ‘At least, I’m trying at the moment to do one thing at a time and Game Of Thrones this year, I was shooting for 10 months so it took a lot of my energy.
‘I loved it but at the moment I’m in album mode, but I’ve also just written a film so I’m trying to continue to work on that as well. Who knows if I’ll do acting stuff around it but I’m sure I will, I want to.
‘I want to do stuff that I really want to watch. That’s my rule: I only want to act in things I want to watch myself.’
Game Of Thrones is set to return in 2019.
