Jaime Lannister teased his own death in Game of Thrones season 5 (Picture: HBO)

Jaime Lannister’s death in Game of Thrones was a sore point for fans as he died cradling his lover, sister and the mother of his children, Cersei Lannister.

While Jaime (played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) steadily redeemed himself as much as someone can from shoving Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) out of a window, paralyzing the child and almost leaving him for dead, Cersei (Lena Headey) spent eight seasons getting crueller and crueller.

In turn, the Queen’s final moments in the arms of her lover were unjustifiably kind, considering the misery and brutality she brought on everyone else in Westeros. Perhaps they’ll meet and different demise in George RR Martin’s alternative ending?

However, we should have seen it coming. In another genius foreshadowing from writers D.B. Benioff and David Weiss with the help of Martin’s guide books, Jaime revealed to Bronn how he wanted his life to end.

‘I’m re-watching the show with my dad who’s never seen it and that line happened which I had no idea or forgot when he’s talking to Bronn,’ recalled Reddit user ceaguila84.

‘I was one of those who was satisfied with their ending so that was so pretty cool to hear.’

Well, Jaime got his wish even if the rest of us, including Cersei actress Lena Headey, were deeply unsatisfied.

‘I will say I wanted a better death,’ she admitted to The Guardian. ‘Obviously, you dream of your death. You could go in any way on that show. So I was kind of gutted.

‘But I just think they couldn’t have pleased everyone.

‘No matter what they did, I think there was going to be some big comedown from the climb.’

Game of Thrones seasons one to eight are available to stream on NOW TV.
