WARNING: Major Game of Thrones season 8, episode 5 below.

We’re not happy with what just went down in Game of Thrones season eight, episode five least of all with two of the series’ biggest characters Jaime and Cersei Lannister.

But following their unsatisfying end, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has posted a sweet tribute to his on-screen twin, Lena Headey.

Taking to Instagram, the Danish actor, 48, wrote: ‘The best, sweetest most wonderful sister from another mother @iamlenaheadey. That was a fun decade.’

It’s hard to believe it’s been a decade since we were first introduced to these two and while Jaime had his much-discussed redemption arc, Cersei remained one of the most well-acted villains on television.

This is why their deaths, by falling rocks, seemed so anti-climactic in The Bells.

There had been some confusion about whether they had actually died in the scene but Nikolaj’s post certainly confirms it.

Legions of fans have been blasting the series’ showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff for being bad writers after the episode as viewers can’t deal with how the action panned out.

Even Lena Headey herself admitted she was concerned about the way Cersei went out.

The trailer for the finale is out but it doesn’t give much of a hint about how Game of Thrones will end, and we’re not sure we’re even bothered anymore.

At least we have the prequel series, Bloodmoon, to look forward to now.

Game of Thrones season 8, episode 6 airs on Sunday and Monday on HBO, Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
