Game Of Thrones star Joe Dempsie has expressed how he felt discomfort filming Gendry’s sex scene with Arya Stark for the eighth season.

Episode two of season eight saw the couple get down to it and viewers wasted no time in making it known that they found the moment uncomfortable as they’ve seen Maisie Williams’ Arya grow up on the show – and it turns out that Joe was just as hasty.

‘That discomfort I had initially seemed to have been shared by quite a lot of people who have watched that episode, too,’ Joe told Esquire.

‘But I found the subsequent conversation actually really quite interesting.’

Joe believes the scene made ‘people confront their own hypocrisy in a way,’ adding to the publication: ‘I think the root cause of that unease and discomfort in a lot of viewers is because they feel like they’ve seen her grow up on screen.

‘That’s something that happens to us all we all start off young and then the majority of us start having sex and we’re all perfectly capable to finding that journey out for ourselves.

‘But we still find it difficult to watch someone else take that journey, say, on a TV screen.’

Gendry has been somewhat of a talking point this week following latest episode The Last Of The Starks.

Clued up fans pointed out that Game Of Thrones actually managed to get the character’s surname wrong when Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) decided to restore his title, making him no longer a bastard but a legitmate heir and Lord Gendry Baratheon of Dragonstone.

Upon sharing the good news with Arya, Gendry said something which has annoyed some book readers: ‘I’m no longer Gendry Rivers, I’m Gendry Baratheon!’

Wrong! He was actually Gendry Waters.

Game Of Thrones airs Sundays on HBO, Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
