He has swapped his thick black wolf-skin robes for the drab grey and green garb of the 1950s.

Instead of letting his hair grow long and thick to keep out the colds of The North, it is now slicked back into a neat post-war coiffure.

There is, however, just a hint of Sam Tarley’s mopey demeanour in John’s downtrodden Dawson.

The actor’s co-star from Game of Thrones Mark Addy – who played King Robert Baratheon – will also be appearing as an older Les Dawson in the show.

Urban Myths: Les Dawson’s Parisienne adventure tells the story of the much-loved stand-up comic’s adventures in Paris in the mid-1950s.

Inspired by the writers Jean Paul Sartre and Albert Camus, a young Les Dawson left his home in Manchester to live in Paris.

He left in order to pursue his dream of becoming a novelist.

But things did not go quite as planned, and he ended up becoming a pianist in a brothel.

Dawson would go on to find huge success as a TV comedian and as presenter of Blankety Blank.

He died in 1993 at the age of just 62, leaving behind his widow Tracey and his then eight month old daughter Charlotte, as well as three older children.

Both Tracey and Charlotte gave their blessing to the project.

The series will cover a number of stories, with next week’s episode going over the intriguing relationship between Joan Rivers (Katherine Ryan) and Barbra Streisand (Jessica Barden).

The next episode will cover the profound musical relationship between Jimi Hendrix (Zach Wyatt) and George Frideric Handel (David Haig), who lived in the same apartment building 246 years apart.

The show will then wrap up with an episode all about Orson Welles (Robbie Coltrane OBE) and his iconic documentary, F for Fake.

Urban Myths: Les Dawson’s Parisienne Adventure will air on Sky Arts on 7th October at 10pm.
