Game of Thrones held perhaps one of the best kept secrets in TV – Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) was a secret Targaryen. Although this secret was mind-blowing when the truth came out, nothing really came of it when the rest of Westeros found out. Despite this, fans of the show have been speculating over who knew the truth before the fans did. And now, theories have cropped up that clues were left in the first episode of the first season.
Back when Game of Thrones was a new franchise, viewers weren’t expecting to need to look deeply into every line of dialogue.
However, when the show first began, the Stark children were out with their father, Ned Stark (Sean Bean), when they happened upon a pack of direwolf pups.
Naturally, each of the children got to choose their own direwolf to keep, except Jon.
In the dialogue during the scene, Jon confesses he shouldn’t take one, as he adds: “I’m not a Stark.”

However, just a few seconds later, Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen) spotted another direwolf – the beast fans now know as Ghost.
He commented: “The runt of the litter. That one’s yours, Snow.”
Viewers pointed out this piece of dialogue has a lot of hidden detail behind it, and explained how it may have been pointing towards Jon’s true parentage before anyone realised it.
They wrote: “The ‘runt of the litter’ idiom means an animal that is the smallest in its family and the least likely to survive.
“They are usually victims of teasing and abuse because of this. Theon claims the direwolf is a perfect match for Jon, as they both can relate on being an outcast in their families.
“Jon the outcast because of him being a bastard. There’s some irony here because Theon is the one to deliver this line when we find out what his family thinks of him down the road.”
On top of the irony created by Theon himself, Jon being pegged as an “outcast” is apt, considering he is not really a Stark child.
Despite being born out of love between Rhaegar Targaryen (Wilf Scolding) and Lyanna Stark (Aisling Franciosi), he remained an outsider his entire life – until he learned about his true identity.

Meanwhile, fans of the show have recently been hitting out about how Jon’s ending was written.
Fans of Reddit began speaking out on Jon’s return to the north, and indeed about how his future is left ambiguous.
Reddit user CrystalDiamond16 said: “My main problem was with what happened to Jon Snow. Throughout the series he was made to be a hero.
“Then he basically gets punished and forced to live out his days at the Night’s Watch. To father no children, hold no lands, or titles.
